Diaper a Day Giveaway Day 4!

Congratualtions to our Day 3 winner Michelle Bardos! About dipaer reviews Michelle says
"I read reviews on the different diaper sites but mainly rely on word of mouth from other cloth diapering momma friends."
We agree that word of mouth reviews and experiences are sometimes the best way to learn about cloth diapers!
Congratulations Michelle!

Day 4 Question:
In what ways does your family "go green" in addition to using Smartipants reusable diapers?

37 comments:

  1. My family uses reusable containers with lids, we also use reusable bags for shopping. I find that trying to live a "green" lifestyle is also much easier on the pocketbook, so there is more than one reason to rethink our current practices and "go green"!

  2. We recycle all our plastic grocery bags, we use cloth grocery bags and I'm sitting in a dark house right now since we try to keep all the lights off when not in use.

  4. we purchase green energy from Bullfrog, walk or ride bikes whenever possible, and use vinegar and baking soda for all of our cleaning.

  12. We recycle, use reusable grocery bags (and use paper when we can't so that we can use them for recycling), line dry diaper covers and some clothes, walk a lot, and try not to use bottled water

  13. We steam-mop our floors (no chemicals), we use cloth grocery bags, we recycle, we re-use plastic containers (i.e. sandwich meat, etc), we try to line dry as many things as possible, we try to conserve energy usage.

  14. clothesline when possible, reusable bags, recycling..... we try to find ways to reuse and pass along as much as we can

    ReplyDelete
  15. recycle, buy as much local produce as possible, and organize errands and running around into preschool mornings, so that we don't have to drive around on other days.

    ReplyDelete
  16. We upcycle everything we can! I turn old t-shirts into rags or cloth wipes or other things that come to mind.

  17. Cloth wipes, cloth napkins, cloth mama products/ diva cup, clean with cloth rags; we don't even keep paper towels in our house, reusable shopping bags, recycling, and store food in reusable glass containers.

  18. We recycle/reuse as much as we can. I try to buy things in recyclable packaging. We grow our own veggies when the weather allows. We turn off the lights and unplug things when they are not in use. We shop at consignment stores. Oh and one of my favorite things is our substitute to paper towels, Skoy Cloths.

  19. Our town doesn't offer curb-side recycling, so we collect our paper and drop it off in paper recycling bins in town. We donate a ton of clothes, toys, etc and I prefer to buy used from consignment sales and thrift stores. Much of what we use to clean at home is free from harsh chemicals. We haven't had much luck, but we try to grow our own garden and we love to buy from the local farmer's market.

  20. We reuse or recycle everything we possibly can. I use cloth bags for all my shopping and more. I also use cloth rags, cloth wipes, cloth napkins, cloth mama products, and reusable containers for food storage...including when we go out to restaurants. :)

  21. We line dry most of our clothes and diapers. We make our own wipe solution and use it on cloth wipes. We use reususable containers for all our food. We use containers from food purchased at the store over and over rather than buying ziploc bags and such. We grow our own food in the summer when it is warm here. We buy most things from thrift stores and garage sales. We use natural soaps and cleaners. We recycle. I even use upcycled items in my retail clothing business. We use old socks w/holes for paper towels. We reuse birthday cards and Christmas cards for tags on next years presents.
We always bring a steel water bottle wherever we go so we don't need to buy plastic water bottles on the go.

  22. Reuseable grocery bags, recycling, and donating old clothes etc.

  23. We use reusable grocery bags, microfiber cloths, wash cloths instead of paper towels, and try to recycle as much as possible, and I try for a garden in the summer.

  24. In addition to cloth diapering my husband walks to work when weather permits. It's cut down our gas consumption considerably. And my hubs is looking good too! Added bonus :-)

  25. Our favorite way to be green is our Smarti pants diapers! We also follow the mantra reduce, reuse, recycle. We line dry as much as we can, use reusable shopping bags and containers, and recycle. Going green has saved us a ton of money.

  26. We only have one car.

  27. I'm not the crunchiest mom on the block, but I try. We recycle, use cloth, shop at thrift stores, do the reusable grocery bag thing (much to the dismay of the grumpy cashiers; lol), carpool, drink tap water, and yell "Litter Bug!" at people throwing Big Mac wrappers out the window of their car.

    ReplyDelete
  28. We try to do our small part - recycling, cloth diaper, reusable grocery bags, walking whenever possible and composting!

    ReplyDelete
  29. We reduce our consumption wherever possible. We only own one car because DH and I are both within walking/biking distance to work. We grow most of our own food in the summer, and shop locally when we can. We reuse things and buy used instead of getting new things. And we use cloth diapers!

  30. In addition to cloth, we have an HE top loader washing machine, energy efficient light bulbs, added low parts into our toilet bowls so toilets use less water to flush, use reusable shopping bags, reusable hot and cold coffee cups (love our coffee), use alternative transportation when we can, buy local produce and dairy and they recycle their delivery boxes, and we recycle whatever we can in our home (my goal is to always have more in our recycle then in our garbage can).

    ReplyDelete
  31. Cloth diapering is a favorite and we line dry laundry most days. We reuse grocery bags use homemade laundry detergent and natural products for cleaning. During the summer our garden supplies most of our food plus some during winter months.

    ReplyDelete
  32. We use only one car, we do most of our food processing at home (I bake from scratch almost everything), and we eat a mostly vegetarian diet. When it's above freezing, we hang out laundry, and we use reusable cloth shopping bags. We walk to as many places as we can, and we use public transport when it's feasible. We grow a garden during summer, and we put up as much of the abundance as possible. We're still eating tomatoes from our summer garden, and it's been turned under for 4 months! We also compost as much of our trash as we can, and try to reuse or recycle the rest. Of course, we also use cloth diapers. Also, those of us who need them, we use homemade and reusable sanitary pads for our moon times.

    ReplyDelete
  33. There are so many. We reuse clothing as much as possible (except undergarments) usually 2-3 times per article. We save water, when heating up water for our shower we grab the cold water in a bucket to water our plants with and give the dog water. We shut of light switches. Try and hit all our stops at once instead of leaving the house for 1-2 stops. We switched to CFLs. We recycle paper and probably LOTS more!

My little family uses cloth grocery bags, we recycle anything that can be. We use cloth wipes with our son as well as trying to use all natural cleaning products whenever we can. We only have one vehicle (which is fine by be as I dont drive).

  37. We use cloth wipes, re-usable shopping bags, recycle even though our city doesn't have curb-side pick up, and all of our appliances are energystar.
